What is geotrace.net?

geotrace.net is a photo archive containing high quality photographs, selected, geo-localized and described one by one. Original photographs have an average of 8 megapixel and can be freely viewed with about 2 megapixel. While free viewing photographs are watermarked. However all photos can be purchased for private or commercial use up to the highest available resolution without any watermarking.

Photo terms of use

On any main photo page you are able to order the concerned photograph. There indicated terms of use apply for our commercial default photo use. You will be contacted by email after sending the order. If needed you may ask for other use cases and prices then.

Photo sources and photographers

All photographs are shots from photographers whose origin can be clearly acknowledged. There is no free photo upload at geotrace.net in order to keep such a high quality level. All rights on photographs still belong to the respective authors.

Shown photographs are shots made with digital cameras or scans from slides made with high quality scanners. Most images have been subject to some postprocessing. Images form analogue sources may be lend on bail in their original support on request. Digital sources may be delivered in some cases as RAW-Format.

Take part

New photographers are always welcome. Contact us! All times there will remain places on the world map that need better photographic documentation. We also want you to contact us if you believe that you have better photographic material of an already covered area. Please observe that you will have to prove your identity for copyright reasons.

Languages

Both the standard web pages and the image description are designed for multi-language operation. Translating is an additional work and expense factor not yet fully realized and that’s why you may find pages in your preferred language but with image description in some foreign tongue. This isn’t an error and just means that the translation is so far missing here.

The beta-mode

geotrace.net went online October 2006 with a few hundred photos for testing purposes. Some functionality may be missing and other may temporarily be unavailable. These ongoing works do not interfere with the photographic material on the server and the ordering process. Presently in construction: global search, photographer’s presentation.

Known Bugs

• Calling photographs at resolutions that are not often requested may take several seconds as these get generated especially based on your request.
• The geotrace.net-specific overlay in the Google Maps interface builds up slowly in regions with high photo points density. This is a known bug based on a slow generalisation of those points. Please do not zoom or pan further if now result shows up, this makes rendering much slower as it already is. Delays of up to 15 seconds are normal, we are working on this!
• Opera 9.0+ is rathe slow while building up the map page. This is due to the Google Maps API cannot be opimized yet by geotrace.net.
• The zoom-box-functionality in the map (by holding the Ctrl-key) doesn't work on Unix-bases machines (incl. Apple). You can activate this functionality by clicking on "Zoom-box" on the bottom left part of the main map.

Please report errors and proposals of any kind, we will try to dwell on it as soon as possible. This calling also includes possible infringement againts copyrights, personal rights or trademark rights. Please always include date, time and the full URL of the concerned page. You can copy the URL from the browser's address bar.
